University of Virginia - Endowed Professor in Autism
/
The University of Virginia School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) seeks a distinguished scholar at the rank of associate or full professor (tenure-eligible) whose expertise will substantially advance the School and University’s mission and vision for research and training related to autism. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of preeminence in school-based autism research (K-12) and have a proven track record of research and scholarship that is synergistic and complementary to UVA’s Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) initiative. STAR is a pan-university collaboration involving faculty, staff and students from SEHD, the Brain Institute, Department of Psychology, School of Medicine, and other units from across Grounds. This senior faculty member will assume the Quantitative Foundation Bicentennial Professorship and join the STAR leadership team.
We expect that the successful candidate for the Quantitative Foundation Bicentennial Professorship will be a highly interdisciplinary scholar who will play a key role in expanding the STAR portfolio in education systems in Virginia and nationally, with a focus on assessment, school-based interventions (behavioral or academic), and the preparation of educational and service professionals. A successful candidate would have a strong record of partnering with community and school groups and demonstrate potential to work in collaboration with STAR and department/school faculty and staff to leverage investments and capacity in place, and expand their reach, impact, and sustainability. The incumbent will play a key role, in collaboration with other STAR faculty, in defining specific goals and areas of autism research in the next phase of STAR.
Candidates with a background in special education, school psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, and/or developmental neuroscience are highly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a clear and compelling research agenda and vision for improving the lives of individuals with autism in school and community settings. In particular, we are interested in a scholar whose expertise lies in the translation of scientific discoveries to applied settings. The incumbent will teach in undergraduate and/or graduate programs and also contribute to training the next generation of scholars through mentorship of graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and junior faculty. We are interested in candidates who can also contribute to the new MCHB-funded Blue Ridge LEND Training Program based at UVA. This position will likely be based within the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education, or the Department of Human Services.

A strong record of partnership with school and community groups
Explicit evidence of commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience advising and mentoring doctoral students and overseeing doctoral student research
UVA is proud to have a strong culture of collaboration and collegiality and is committed to creating collaborative and diverse environments necessary to develop and deliver quality research and educational programs.
