The University of Minnesota is seeking a psychologist or neuropsychologist to join our expanding interdisciplinary team specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of autism and related conditions. The University of Minnesota has an established autism clinic and research program and is committed to providing high-quality services that inform and are informed by research. We partner with other departments and colleges within the University on research related to early risk, medical comorbidities, transition services, and understanding autism prevalence. The position involves a scholarly track that may include research, grant writing, or training.
This position involves an appointment in the Autism and Neurodevelopment Clinic. The majority of effort will be devoted to clinical services, with the opportunity to contribute to or develop research. The position is part of the University of Minnesota’s new center for clinical research on brain development, the Masonic Institute on the Developing Brain (MIDB). MIDB brings together researchers, clinicians and educators, as well as policy and public health experts with the goal of addressing early and adolescent brain health to maximize their collective impact and increase the speed of discovery.
About the Appointment:
· State-of-the-art new center for clinical research on brain development, the Masonic Institute on the Developing Brain (MIDB) is one of the first of its kind, a one-stop clinic and research location specializing in care for children with neurobehavioral conditions.
· Strong team environment with more than 25 faculty providing care across the entire spectrum of pediatric psychology, pediatric neuropsychology, and autism and development disorders.
· Provide psychological and neuropsychological evaluation of children and adults with suspected or previously diagnosed autism.
· Provide supportive communication with family members, school and other professionals involved in the child's care. Position entails executing in-depth evaluations, written and oral feedback to families, related providers, and schools regarding test results and recommendations for treatment and educational planning.
· Provide treatment group and parent-mediated interventions for autism.
· Provide supervision of trainees.
· Contribute to research on young children at risk for autism and related conditions.
· Participate in team conferences and provide consultative services on and off site.
· Collaboratively work as a positive, constructive team member.
· Focus is placed on intervention and assessment, as well as providing consultation to health practitioners and parents in regard to behavioral management and parent/child relationship issues.
· Additional job activities include conducting various outreach activities for the medical professional community and participating in seminars and various other didactic experiences.
About the Division:
The Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience is comprised of three sections: Pediatric Psychology, Pediatric Neuropsychology, and Autism and Neurodevelopment. All members of the Division are committed to research, often involving collaboration with faculty members in the Department of Pediatrics, or other areas of the University, to advance understanding of normal and abnormal neurological function. Because of the broad commitment to Clinical Neuroscience, we expect the Division of Clinical Behavioral Neuroscience to enhance all of its programs through the addition of new faculty members as well as the increase in service, educational and research endeavors over the next few years.
Qualifications:
· Ph.D. or a Psy.D. in clinical psychology, school psychology, or counseling psychology from an APA and/or CPA accredited program, internship training, and minimum 1-year post-doctoral training in pediatric psychology or neuropsychology is required.
· Applicant must be license-eligible in the state of Minnesota
· Strong diagnostic skills required.
· Excellent organizational skills, strong oral and written communication skills and computer proficiency are required.
· This individual must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
· We are particularly interested in individuals who want to contribute to or develop clinical research on autism
· Research-level training on diagnostic measures for autism, including ADOS and Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R). Must be willing to train to reliability on both measures.
· Experience conducting group or individual interventions with autism
· Interest in working with complex patients with autism (severe autism, autism with co-occurring medical or mental health conditions)
