The Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) announces 1-2 postdoctoral fellowship positions in pediatric psychology during the 2021-2022 academic year.  The fellowship positions will focus on evidence-based evaluation of children and adolescents, birth through 21 years of age, with a wide range of medically complex and/or neurodevelopmental conditions.  A variety of rotations will be available, depending on the interests of the fellows, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Infant and Toddler Evaluation, Sickle Cell Developmental Screening Program, Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Neuropsychological Evaluation. 

The Pediatric Psychology Service in the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics is an outpatient clinic located in a major medical center that serves a diverse population of patients from a large geographical area (www.musckids.org/developmentalpeds/#about).  The Pediatric Psychology team currently consists of six licensed psychologists and one licensed psychoeducational specialist.  The team works closely with other allied health professionals to provide comprehensive psychological and medical care to children.  The Pediatric Psychology service also participates in the nationally recognized, APA-accredited Charleston Consortium Psychology Internship Training Program (academicdepartments.musc.edu/psychology_internship/index.htm). 

Pediatric psychology postdoctoral fellows gain experience with a wide variety of populations, including children with developmental disabilities, complex medical and neurological conditions, learning disabilities, attention problems, behavior problems, autism spectrum disorder, and psychiatric disorders.  Postdoctoral fellows may participate in the South Carolina Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (SC LEND) fellowship program (academicdepartments.musc.edu/sclend/). Postdoctoral fellows also participate in a bimonthly didactic series, and have opportunity to attend psychiatry, pediatric, and/or neuroscience grand rounds. 

Candidates should have completed a doctoral degree in clinical or school psychology, an internship from an APA-approved program, and have experience working with pediatric populations. Postdoctoral Fellowship, UCLA

Clinical/Research Postdoctoral Fellowship in Autism Spectrum Disorder

The UCLA Child and Adult Neurodevelopmental (CAN) Clinic and the UCLA Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) is offering a one year renewable clinical postdoctoral fellowship to engage in a new clinical research program aimed at testing the efficacy of the PEERS® for Careers program, an evidence-based social skills intervention adapted for the workplace. The trainee will be engaged in the assessment and treatment of transition aged youth and young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) within the context of an intervention research trial.

The fellowship provides specialized training in assessment, with a focus on gaining competency with specific diagnostic measures for ASD (e.g., Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2; ADOS-2) and breadth in using and interpreting a variety of clinical assessments needed for differential diagnosis and capturing functioning across areas (e.g., neurocognitive measures, adaptive functioning assessment, and psychiatric interview).  

Training in intervention will include, implementing an empirically-supported, employment-focused social skills intervention for young adults with ASD. Fellow will lead young adult and social coach groups and conduct intakes to determine suitability for the program.

Additionally, the fellowship will include engagement with community partner employers, including recruitment of potential employers, on-going employer education and training in supporting individuals with ASD in the workplace, and on-going problem-solving and support with young adults once placed with community employers.

The CAN Clinic and PEERS® Program are outpatient clinics that provide specialty care in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry through the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the University of California, Los Angeles. The Seaver Autism Center for Research and Treatment is seeking one full-time Clinical Research Postdoctoral Fellow to join the team at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. The Seaver Autism Center leads a progressive research program while providing comprehensive, personalized care to children and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and rare genetic syndromes associated with ASD (e.g., Phelan-McDermid syndrome, FOXP1 syndrome, ADNP syndrome, DDX3X syndrome, Fragile X syndrome). Our multidisciplinary team of clinical and preclinical faculty seek to identify the causes of neurodevelopmental disorders and advance effective treatments.

Clinical Responsibilities: The fellow will actively participate in multidisciplinary diagnostic evaluations of research participants to complete hours for clinical psychology licensure. Experience with all modules of the ADOS-2, ADI-R, and cognitive assessments is preferred. The fellow will also assist with report writing. Seeking applicants with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams. The fellow will be involved in the supervision and mentorship of psychology graduate students and post-baccalaureate research coordinators. Additional clinical experiences (e.g., treatment cases, neuropsychological testing) and involvement in the Seaver Center’s Community Outreach Program (e.g., social skills groups) are possible for interested candidates.

Research Responsibilities: The fellow will be involved in a variety of cutting-edge research studies ranging from natural history studies to clinical trials. The fellow will also play a critical role in phenotyping for the Center’s Rare Disease Program. Additional opportunities include participation in weekly multidisciplinary research meetings, manuscript preparation, and presentations at national and international conferences. There is also the opportunity to develop projects related to personal research interests. Interdisciplinary collaboration is available and encouraged.

Research Assistant, U-Mass Boston

The research assistant will be responsible for communicating with families and interventionists to coordinate home observations and data collections, administering child assessments and parent interviews, scoring intervention video tapes for fidelity of implementation, performing data management tasks, and assisting with manuscript preparation and IRB submissions. This research assistant will also supervise undergraduate students and participate in lab meetings at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Candidates should have completed a doctoral degree in clinical or school psychology, an internship from an APA-approved program, a postdoctoral fellowship, have experience working with pediatric populations including ASD, and be license eligible in South Carolina.  In addition to clinical service, the psychologist will be expected to participate in the training of predoctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, and other trainees within the division.

Primary Job Responsibilities (team member can focus on 1 area):

  1. Evaluation - Conduct neuropsychological and psycho-diagnostic evaluation. Provide screening and evaluation with children and adolescents (ages 12 months to 18 years) for autism spectrum, adhd, learning disorders, anxiety, ocd, mood, intellectual disability, and giftedness/2e.

  2. Treatment - Provide therapy and consultation for children and adolescents participating in evidence-based CBT, DBT, social skills training, behavior therapy, mindfulness, and parent coaching. Services are delivered in individual, family, and small group formats.

  3. Supervision/Training/Consultation - Provide training, supervision and consultation to post-doctoral fellows and clinic team members.

Skills and Requirements:

  1. Five years+ experience providing neuropsychological, psycho-diagnostic, Autism, and/or early childhood assessment.

  2. Five years+ experience providing skills-based, evidence-based therapies with children, adolescents, parents, and families (i.e., CBT, DBT, ACT, SEL, behavior therapy, parenting programs).

  3. Open to feedback and consultation and enjoys working on a team.

  4. Experience working with culturally diverse clients and families.

  5. Highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic, reliable, wordsmith, techie, and creative.

  6. Multi-disciplinary team, school, hospital, private practice or private out-patient clinic experience. Work experience in various settings is preferred.

  7. Licensed Psychologist in California. Completed training from an accredited university training program in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or Combined Psychology.

  8. Bilingual/Trilingual (Mandarin, Spanish) is a plus.

  9. Experience and updated CEU for training and supervision to post-doctoral fellows is a plus.
